Updated July 28, 2010.

Want to improve your job-finding odds? Look for industries that have been growing recently ... they have better odds of finding a job because demand exceeds supply.

Instructions

  2. Use the search box to find your metropolitan area.

If you need some help finding your specific industry, use the Industry Tree to see how all the industries fit together.

Note

The "Hot Spots" are determined using BLS data, and show industry/location combinations that are growing faster than the workforce (faster than 1% per year).

Caution: Occasionally, a hot spot will show up that is misleading. For example, when there is a strike, and the number employed goes down for a given month, it will show up as a decline without mentioning the strike. Likewise, one year later, when we compare current data to 12 months earlier, there may be unexpected growth that reflects a previous strike.
